Pahranagat Sunset

Pahranagat SunsetBack in August I went to Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge to shoot a meteor shower.  Sadly once I arrived I realized exactly how bad the skies were going to be for astrophotography.  Undeterred, I spent an hour or so walking around my favorite park of the refuge near Upper Pahranagat Lake.  I’ve shot this tree before just over a year ago.  At that time much of the ground you see here was still under water.  The drought is hitting this area particularly hard as lakes continue to recede.  You can see my shot from a year ago by clicking here.

This image is an HDR created from 5 different frames.  I’ve included the 0EV frame as the “original”.  With the huge amount of tonal range between the foreground and background sky, this was a perfect use case for HDR.  I tried to keep the resulting image as natural as possible.  I’m pretty happy with the results.
