The famous Roy’s Motel & Cafe sign, a staple of the Mojave section of Route 66. Roy’s was founded in 1938 as a simple gas and service station by Roy Crowl. The now famous sign wasn’t added until February 1, 1959. Of course the opening of Interstate 40 in 1972 decimated not only Roy’s but the entire town of Amboy (map).
